The park was renamed when the Scripps Ranch Civic Association and City of San Diego came to an agreement about how to use the property. A former sales pavilion was donated to the City by McMillin Communities. The association worked with the City of San Diego to secure a Use Permit for the park, which would serve as a community center. After the park was constructed, the Civic Association and City of San Diego began a public planning process for the park.

Conference rooms

The City of San Diego and the Scripps Ranch Civic Association collaborated to make the Blue Cypress a meeting place for the community. The civic association sought to transform the building into a true town hall with thought-provoking ambiance, archives, and meeting rooms. After years of planning and negotiating with the City of San Diego, the building is finally ready for use by the community. There are several benefits to the new meeting space for Scripps Ranch.

The community center offers two different meeting rooms, the E.W. Scripps Meeting Room, which sits beneath the cupola, and the Nackey Conference Room. Both rooms are named after the founder of Scripps Ranch, and each room features a picture of the man. The E.W. Scripps Meeting Room contains a portrait of the founder of Scripps Ranch, and the Nackey Room was named for the community’s first mayor, Nackey Scripps Meanley. Next article.
